As 2018 fades, and 2019 presents us all with new opportunities, let’s mindfully reassure ourselves, and each other, that it is our hope in Christ that holds true.
Let’s make 2019 a year of revitalization for the collective spirit of Unity Baptist Church. Let’s deepen our understanding of the Word, while building new, and strengthening current relationships, within the church body. We worship and glorify God well on Sunday mornings and we have strong small groups that meet weekly in different homes during the week. However, one comment we hear often is that we need to do more as a church body, in the church building, so that members can get to know their brothers and sisters in Christ deeply.
The Event Planning Team shot out of the gate with an exciting lineup of engaging and fun opportunities for members to gather in fellowship. Please be sure to check the weekly bulletin and church website calendar for scheduled events, then please make sure you attend! We’ve started the year off brilliantly with 29 people gathering for dinner at Rizzi’s Pizza in Arlington, on January 2, for food, fun, and fellowship! If you missed it, keep an eye on the calendar for future gatherings.

Yancey (John Yancey) joined us during this quarter. We look forward to witnessing his service to Christ.
Our Sunday morning Sunday School program continues to be suspended. This decision was based on the low level of participation from our body, leading the Elders to conclude that the body doesn’t perceive Sunday School to be a needed program. If you have thoughts or concerns about Sunday School, please feel free to share those with the Elders.
Women’s Bible Study
The Women’s Bible study – Hebrews Part 2 – began January 8th.
We are collecting backpacks and school supplies – there is a list on the foyer table – for a yet to be determined school. In Christ’s name, the church can directly impact the lives of the children, their parents, and the teachers through this outreach ministry.
Please place the items in the clear boxes located in the Mother’s room (room to the right as you enter the front door). A packing day will be scheduled and communicated in July for delivery to the students when school starts.
Women’s Retreat, October 5 – 6
Visit the website for the communication that was sent after the event.
Mercy Day October 14
Church members and friends donated six truck and trailer loads of goods to be shared with the local community. Please continue making donations, as the next Mercy Day should be announce soon.
Kairos Prison Ministry
The extended weekend of March 7 – 10 is the next event. Inside teams are being formed with training starting very soon. Unity members participate, and usually lead, the outside kitchen team. Go here for more information about this ministry. You’ll be hearing more about this opportunity before the event weekend.
Prison Fellowship assigned us 25 kids this year to adopt and be Christ, Christmas, and a parent. We couldn’t serve 1 child due to moving out of state, but picked up 5 additional kids within the remaining 11 households. Thanks church for serving 29 kids this year!! Also, Katherine & Mark Byrd have stepped up to coordinate Angel Tree starting next year. Thanks!
Ongoing Elder professional development continues with the reading and discussing of two books by author Steven J. Lawson: The Expository Genius of John Calvin and The Passionate Preaching of Martyn Lloyd-Jones.
Keeping in Touch
The beginning of a new year seems like an excellent time for all of us to make sure our contact information is up-to-date. The collected information will be consolidated into a shared church directory, with email addresses added to the firstname.lastname@example.org distribution list. Please give your information to Jen Snyder.
As we kick-off a shiny new year filled with anticipation and excitement, the Elders ask every one of you to pray diligently for us, so that we have the wisdom, courage, and strength to serve you as Christ serves us all. Please know that the Elders pray for each of you, and our desire is to faithfully share the Word, and to help each of you, and ourselves, grow in knowledge our of Lord Jesus Christ.
